Take Action

Elder Abuse Awareness

As the global population of older adults continues to grow and people live longer, elder abuse has become an increasingly serious issue that affects health, dignity, human rights, and, in some cases, can lead to death. Raising awareness is essential to preventing abuse wherever and whenever possible.

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month, and Adult Protective Services (APS) partners with community organizations and professional groups across Texas to educate the public about adult abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation.

Throughout June, Silver Ribbon Community Partners proudly hosts and participates in several community awareness events, including:

  • World Elder Abuse Awareness Walk – McAllen, Texas

  • World Elder Abuse Awareness Parade – Edinburg, Texas

  • Light Up Purple – McAllen Performing Arts Center

  • Senior Recognition Day – Hidalgo, Texas

These events bring our community together to stand against elder abuse and support the safety, dignity, and well-being of older adults.
