Our Organization

We are a 501C3 nonprofit doing GREAT things in the community. We provide advocacy, resources, and support to our elderly and adults with disabilities in Hidalgo and Starr County.

Take Action

With a growing global population of elderly people, and as longevity increases, abuse of the elderly is an increasing and serious problem that affects health and human rights and can cause death, so it is vital to raise awareness of it and thus prevent it whenever and wherever possible.

Elder abuse is global and comes in many forms including physical, emotional, sexual and financial abuse and also neglect. Elderly people are human and deserve the same dignity and respect as people of all other age groups.

Elderly people are particularly vulnerable to abuse and to being unable to defend themselves and get help as fear and infirmity can be major barriers to seeking and getting help, and sometimes spotting and challenging abuse in the elderly isn’t easy, some are isolated having outlived family and friends, and some are abused in institutions where abuse is not spotted or is covered up, and in some cases the elderly are not given priority by authorities in abuse matters.

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month and all month Adult Protective Services (APS) is working with community partners and professional groups around the state to raise awareness about adult abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. In June, we host the World Elder Abuse Awareness Walk, McAllen,Texas, World Elder Abuse Awareness Parade, Edinburg, Texas, Light Up Purple, Mcallen Performing Arts and Senior Recognition Day, Hidalgo, Texas.

We will share all the information for these events soon!

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

At Silver Ribbon Community Partners, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are core to who we are and what we do.

Our mission is to provide advocacy, education, and resources necessary to prevent the elderly or disabled from becoming victims of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. To fulfill that mission, our leadership and staff must reflect the diversity of the many different communities we serve around the world, that we are intentional about including groups that have been historically excluded in co-creating solutions to community challenges, and that we apply an equity lens to everything we do, to ensure that every person in every community has access to the opportunities they need to reach their full potential.
